Oepidpus FINALLY GETS IT. after going 3/4 of the play, he finally puts the pieces together and realizes who he really is and what he's done. ok, starting from the bottom left, going up, right and down we have:
-King Laius (Oedi's dad) telling someone to leave the baby Oedi on the slopes of Mt. Cithaeron where it will surely die. (to avoid the prophecy of being killed by his son) and a quiet Jocasta in the background.
-- baby Oedipus on the ground, crying, is found by some shepherds. he his eventually brought...
---...to Polybus and Merope, king and queen of Corinth, who raise him. many years later, he wanders off...
----...and kills a man who tried to run him over with a chariot (aka Laius) but one of the man's servants escapes (Oedipus fulfills the prophecy of killing his own father).
-----the sphinx is there cause Oedipus encountered her in his life. (i know she doesnt have alot to do with this revelation as a whole, but she's there so deal with it XD)
------Tiresias' words encho in Oedipus' mind, all the hints the seer spoke of his atrocious crimes. (he even outright says Oedi's the murderer, but Oedi had stormed off beforehand)
-------Oedipus and Jocasta getting married...
--------...and creating abhorred incestual progeny! (there's actually 4 o' them, they had 2 SONs as well as 2 daughters)
This is my favourite card in the bunch all because of how awesome Oedipus' face and hand came out. I'm so proud of myself for capturing his sheer horror as all this dawns on him. (hands always kill my drawings so this is actually the best hand I have drawn in my entire life, believe it or not)
I really, really like this drawing, Taylor. Oedipus looks really well drawn in your style and it looks like you've been developing your drawing skills quite well. Great job.
I had to do something similar to this, but for reading Antigone.
